Switzerland and Eastern France

We plan to travel to Switzerland next summer and just beginning to plan. We probably will have 3.5 to 4 weeks. We have visited much of France but never the eastern side. We can visit France again when we travel to Belgium in the future but am thinking of adding Burgundy (Beaune area) or Alsace area on this trip. I am thinking we will need 2 weeks in Switzerland. Any recommendations about Beaune or Alsace. Also, any thoughts on airports. I know Zurich is a big hub but what about airports in eastern France? Traveling from Colorado.
Thank you,

I found it very hard to limit my time in Switzerland to just 4 weeks. You might find some useful information in my trip report or my planning threads.

Stunning country -- enjoy!

Your airport options without a change in europe are Frankfurt, Geneva or Zurich.

There is an airport in Basel - in the corner of France, germany and switz - but it's tiny and you will have to change (probably LHR) to get back to the US.

Strongly reco Strasbourg and Alsace for a completely different look at France. Lots to see and do , as well as tour the wine road and visit Colmar - a charming village.

Visited some of the lovely villages, Colmar, car museum in Mulhouse and Haut Koenigsbourg, also beautiful was a stay in Wissembourg (north of Strasbourg) on a previous trip. Delightful region.

We just returned from Geneva, the French Alps and Provence. Can't get more "Eastern France" than that.
