And Bern has the Paul Klee Museum - great modern architecture inside and out.

Bern is a good choice on wet day as it has many covered sidewalks in the town center.

And it has the famous bear park - new in last several years replacing old tiny bear pits

The Ballenberg Outdoor Museum is wonderful -- but outdoors, and so not a great bad weather option, and it can involve quite a bit of walking, so isn't really an alternative to hiking.>

On a nice day Ballenberg makes a great part of a Lake Brienz boat ride- take bus there from Brienz.

Question 1:
You will not need your Swiss Travel Pass at Basel (day 1) and you can avoid to need it on day 10 if you reach Zurich airport by late train on day 9. In this way, you could buy a Travel Pass for 8 days.

Question 2:
answered by Palen. Be aware that a ticket to Jungfraujoch will be very expensive, even with a Swiss Travel Pass.

Question 3:
Chateau de Chillon is a rather short walk along lake Geneva (many city bus stops along this itinerary). The approach by boat is more scenic.

The Lavaux vineyards begin west of Vevey. You may:

go by train to Vevey Funi, Corseaux, St.Saphorin, Rivaz, Epesses or Cully,
by boat (afternoon only) to Rivaz-St.Saphorin or Cully,
by Vevey bound citybus to the last station or by train to Vevey Funi and by rope railway to Corseaux or Beausite,

in order to begin your walk.

Question 4:
Don't worry: Lauterbrunnen - Gruetschalp - Muerren will be closed, but Lauterbrunnen - Stechelberg - Gimmelwald - Muerren - Birg - Schilthorn will run as usual.
Grindelwald - First gondola: will run from May 6th (weather permitting).
Cog wheel trains to Schynige Platte: will begin to run on May 20th or 27th.

Yes indeed - passes pass in full until Grindelwald and or Wengen but above those towns the Swiss Pass gives just 25% off trains to the Jungfraujoch - so you may still pay $100 or so to go up and back even with a Swiss Pass (about $200 Interlaken-Jungfraujoch without a pass!) -there is an early bird special - first trains of day that is cheaper. You can always get on Jungfraujoch trains it seems - no need to reserve IME -not even sure you can.

<Don't worry: Lauterbrunnen - Gruetschalp - Muerren will be closed, but Lauterbrunnen - Stechelberg - Gimmelwald - Muerren - Birg - Schilthorn will run as usual.>

All covered in full by a Swiss Pass except Murren to Scilthorn is 50% off with a pass.

Yes, yes, proven again, this is absolutely the best travel forum out there! Thank you for this last set of information. Swiss Pass tips were right on target. You are brilliant! And so many good ideas. I will now organize the information and per usual, it sends me off to find out more information about the information

I'm repeating this for my own confidence. I checked Swiss Pass prices. It is the same price to order online and print or to buy when we get there. I don't think? there is an advantage one way or the other. I guess taking care of it online it's done? Advise?????

I will add.....I found that Morges has a tulip festival from the end of April to May 14. I've read some about it. Who knows maybe there will be an obvious opportunity to enjoy the activities one day while we are in the area, if the flowers are still in beautiful bloom.

Thinking about the next stop I contacted the cogwheel at Mt. Pilates this was my response: Officially the Golden Round Trip starts on May 6th but we know more around mid or at the end of April if we can open the cogwheel railway. I'm hoping that it will be open by that date or we may miss it.

We will arrive in Luzern by noon and have the rest of the day. The next day we will have all day, but will take a late train to Zurich. If you have any must see or must do advice for Luzern, please share. Right now I think the Golden Route is a good idea if it is open. Weather and the fact that we just spent 4 days in the BO........if we can't do the Golden Route, what would you suggest? I will start looking at Luzern with more discernment today.

Thank you again! We are getting more excited and anxious!
