While I cannot give you a definite answer, I do know that I see many college age people on the streets of Lauterbrunnen during the day. In fact there are so many even in September that I wonder where they all sleep at night. There are hostels there in the valley, and cheaper accommodations in Gimmelwald (not Grindelwald). Also Balmers in Interlaken is supposed to be a big gathering place. Bern never impressed me as a hot bed of youthful activity. I cannot comment on Geneva; been too long since I was there.
When my 3 kids were college age (not THAT long ago) they all loved staying at the hostel in Interlaken. The 2 boys went together and our daughter went w/ a girlfriend. They were there on separate trips, so it's not like they were all there together. Lots of young people.

The "home" for many young travelers is Balmer's Herberge (hostel) in Interlaken. With movies, laundromat, bar, restaurant, tiny grocery, bike rental, rafting excursions, shuttle-bus service into the mountains, and friendly staff--if hostels are your thing, this is it! Two of our sons did Balmer's out of college and loved it. Tel. 822-1961 Jinx Hoover
