Switching Greek Airlines
We will be flying from JFK to Athens and are scheduled to arrive at 9:30 AM, Saturday, 11 April. We are flying Olympic Airlines.
.
We are considering flying from Athens airport, without leaving the airport, to Mykonos, That flight is scheduled to leave at 12:00 Noon. We will be using Aegean Airlines.
Is 2 and a half hours long enough to get us through Greek customs, to pick up our bags, to the check-in counter, back through the metal detectors and to the gate in time for boarding?
Thoughts?
Thanks.
Bob

Assuming your flight to ATH is on time (and that can be a big assumption) you shouldn't have a problem. ATH is not large and is very manageable. Olympic and Aegean are in the same general area. Customs is usually fairly quick and security checks in general aren't time consuming (unless there are flight delays, strikes and/or threats of strikes, in which case the backlog can be long). But I still think you should be OK.

dfr is right, and even a bit conservative. It's really too early in the year for that strike-threat ploy...and even if Olympic were late taking off from JFK, it has 9-10 hours to make it up; that flight usually lands on the button. In april there won't be long passport-check line etc... you'll have ample time to check in at Aegean, and get some Euros at the ATM, maybe a snack too. Don't fret.

Athens Airport is small. Walk through Customs, turn right as you exit and then walk up the steps to get to Aegean Airlines. There will be LOTS of counters and LOTS of people so grab one of those ladies with the walkie-talkies and ask where the Aegean counters are.

It's the least I can do, Heimdall. Everyone has been so helpful by sharing their experiences and opinions, I just have to take a few minutes to let everyone know how things went. Who knows who else might be wanting to know about the exact same things. If not now, perhaps in the future.
