Swiss Train/Glacier Express…then on to Zurich…Help Please

In early September I’ll be visiting friends in Chamonix. Flying into Geneva. Plan was to go back to Geneva and then take the train to Zürich and then a night train from Zürich to Prague. Stay in Prague a few days, then take a train to Vienna, and then fly back to the United States.

Now I’m thinking of this new plan. But I need some help figuring out how expensive this might be. Hopefully someone on this forum can help me please. I already have another thread going… but with more of my original plan..

I would leave Chamonix and take a train to Zermatt. Stay over night and take the Glacier Express to St. Moritz. Spend the night and the next day, take the train to Zürich, and then take the night train to Prague. Does this sound reasonable? I’m probably going to be a solo senior traveler.

If I do this, would it be advisable to get the Interail Pass? And wondering if there’s a US based company that could help me do all this reasonably priced? Or is it easy enough to do it myself online? Also hotel recommendations at either overnight? Thank you in advance!

It doesn't make any sense to go up to Zermatt if you can stay there a few hours only before it gets night and to backtrack to the Rhone Valley the morning after.

For the Glacier Express train ride, you have to leave Brig at 14.18, with arrival at Chur at 18.25
Trains from Chamonix to Brig run every hour, the first one at 7.28 (2 1/2 hrs journey)
Leave then Chur at 21.31, change at Sargans and arrive at Buchs SG at 22.12.
The Vienna and Prague bound train (with sleeping cars) leaves Buchs SG at 23.05.
Ticket for the Swiss leg (Vallorcine - Buchs SG): Saver Day Pass. It you buy it 6 months ahead in the web, it will cost 52 CHF.
There is furthermore a seat reservation fee (compulsory) for the Glacier Express.

If you prefer to spend a night at St. Moritz, you may remain in the Glacier Express train up to there (arrival at 21.00) and leave St. Morritz the day after at 19.02 forf Buchs SG.
For the St. Moritz - Buchs SG leg, you will need a supersaver ticket or another Saver Day Pass (almost the same price)..

As an a alternative, you might also go from St. Moritz THROUGH THE ALPS to Prague:
St. Moritz dp 8.02 - Scuol-Tarasp 9.24/9.30 - Landeck 11.16/11.27 - Innsbruck 12.11/12.16 - Linz 15.15/15.54 - Prague ar 19.36
The supersaver ticket for the Swiss leg would then cost 33 CHF if you sleep at St. Moritz and 9 CHF if youi sleep at Scuol.

For tickets for the Zurich, resp Buchs SG od Landeck - Prague leg, have a look at www-oebb.at https://www.thetrainline.com/trains/europe
