Swiss registered car in Liechtenstein

Can we drive a Swiss registered rental car into Liechtenstein?
Is there any process to do at the Swiss rental car company to drive into Liechtenstein?

Thanks.

There probably are no border controls between Switzerland and Lichtenstein. Taking a car across a border might be problematic only if going to the former Eastern bloc or to Italy because of insurance coverage.

Thanks Michael. Do we need the cross border card from the Swiss car rental company for driving into Liechtenstein?

Ask the rental agency.

You will need a green card in the vehicle as proof of international insurance. Note that this is only 3rd party insurance. You should notify the car company that you wish to visit Liechtenstein to ensure you have the correct insurance coverage.
Liechtenstein is a Schengen country, but not EU, so you shouldn't see a border control, but they do sometimes do spot checks.

Green cards have been done away with when driving in mainland Europe.
I too would ask the car hire company. Some times there is a restriction sometimes an extra charge.

There are no legal restrictions for travel btwn CH and Liechtenstein, there are no border checks - you are free to drive in and out at will. See http://tourismus.li

For travel on the main roads to get you there, like the A3 to Sargans and then the A13 (also from St. Gallen) your car needs to have the "Vignette" (road-tax sticker) installed, and if you go through Liechtenstein (easy to do, you blink and you've done it) into Austria, you will need the Austrian version of the Vignette. Other than that, do what you like.

The only possible (although unlikely) restrictions would not be legal ones but any restrictions that your specific car rental company has in place, and that's not something we can answer here - check with the car rental companies you have in mind, surely their websites will tell.

Ah, border checks, firstly there are border stations on the swiss side for cars and you have to slow down, but very unlikely to be asked to stop, unless the vehicle is truck or above, my BIL does it twice daily and they occassionally ask him to stop to make sure his meat import limit has not been exceeded.
