Weissertee - Just becuase booking.com doesn't have the rooms in particular hotels, doesn't mean those hotels themselves don't.>

well I can just say from experience of being in Grindelwald around June 1 once that the hotel board at the train station area had yes many red lights on it but also a fair number of green lights - meaning availability for that night. May the fancier hotels close but IME plenty of them do not - and Interlaken the same way but more green lights on their rr station hotel board.

That was several years ago but I doubt it has changed even though it is low season because European schools have not go out -great time to go - around first of June but can be cold at higher elevations like in Wengen or Murren.

I went to an Alpine descent of the cows while in Switzerland where the cows are decked out in flowers and big bells and their owners are all dressed up in Alpine garb. It was fun! They bring the cows back down to the valley in the fall.

Maybe you can find an ascent while you are there in the Spring. It takes place in May and June. I imagine (but don't know) they do the same pageantry.

Joannyc-We saw a descent in September a year back. Just came upon it in Lauterbrunnen. It had not been planned in advance as I had looked for "official" ones before we left, and saw none that were listed as happening when we were there. Was lots of fun. Yes, I'll definitely see, as we get closer to the date, if there will be any ascents while we're there.

I can't believe you actually thought I wasn't aware of that. No matter, I had also checked the online sites of some of those hotels in Grindelwald and they WERE down to just a few rooms left. Since I live in Switzerland, I've daytripped to that area many times in late spring/early summer and it's not uncommon to see hotels there with signs up indicating they're closed until mid-June or so. Not all (which is exactly what I originally posted), but a fair number.

For definitive dope on this contact the Grindelwald Tourist Office which also books rooms I believe.
