Sweet wines you would suggest in Paris

I am not a fan of most wines but do like a Moscato or Mavrodaphne...hence the "sweet" wines title. I'm not really sure what type of wine to ask for while in Paris and also can you suggest some to bring back home. Thanks in advance!

The generic name is "vin doux naturel" and you can ask for a Maury, a Banyuls, a Muscat de Rivesaltes, de Mireval or de Frontignan, a Beaumes de Venise ....

Sauternes makes a very good accompaniment to foie gras. You may want to consider Montbazillac, Coteaux du Layon, Bonnezeaux, and Quarts de Chaume. The last 3 all come from the Loire Valley.

The title of this thread made me think of a bus trip my husband and I took to Paris when we were living in southern Germany years ago. We signed on for the trip because it was a very cheap way to get to Paris for a weekend, but we did not spend time with the group once we arrived. Most of the people on the trip had not traveled much in France and the tour guide gave a little talk on cultural differences. She explained that the wine in Paris was not like "our" German (white, sweet) wine--it was red and "sour." She also explained that they would not find any good beer.

One night we had dinner at this bistro a vins...

http://www.melac.fr/

It was so pleasant that while we didn't want desert we did want to linger a little longer. We asked for a sweet wine to sip and the waiter brought two glasses an an Anjou wine. Very sweet and sippable.

We also had lunch here.
