I made a mistake on my last post. Albergo del Senato's web site is at ://www.albergodelsenato.it/ not the website I mentioned. However you might check that venere website for reviews of the hotel. There are quite a few there.

I stayed at the Napoleon about 5 years ago and would not stay there again. It was touted as a wonderful 4 star for a reasonable price. Our bed was awful, shower did not work, staff too laid back, etc. etc. The neighborhood was a little dicey although it did not bother me. Street market right across the street daily and the subway was across the street as well.

we KNEW it must have been a hurricane!! My husband and I were on a ferry that left St. Mark's square, in Venice, september 24? (gotta check my notes to be sure of the date).
we traveled to Murano, to view the glass, etc. Then we boarded the next ferry boat, going to Burano.
that's when the hurricane began to blow. the estimate? 70-80mph--waves coming over the deck, white caps appearing on the side windows---the wind was blowing the rain sideways--just sheets and sheets of rain. You couldn't see ahead of the boat--the cabin was packed with people--and not ONE WORD was spoke--absolute silence! it was eery, for sure.
and we've been in hurricanes, living on the gulf of mexico!
what a day to remember!!

If this is the same crazy storm I experienced in Venice, it was Friday the 24th.
Came in totally unexpected and out of the blue. One minute, clear skies, the next minute, I looked up to green and black skies straight out of the Wizard of Oz. Then the wind kicked up and soon the rain started. I got stuck in a wine bar for three hours!
I've been in a lot of storms in Italy but none were quite like that one.

L 'Olmo us great for day trips. We have stayed there three times. They have five two-room suites, one room, and one apartment suitable for three people. The owner and staff are very friendly - it feels like a second home for us. We still keep in touch with one of the former employees who lives in Pienza. Although it is located in the country, it is less than a ten minute drive to Pienza and only three minutes to the little walled village of Montichiello. Montepulciano is fiften minutes away, Montalcino about twenty. You can reach Siena in 45 minutes. It is nice being able do day trips without having to drive in and out of a town. If you would like more info, let me know.

Wow-rialtogrl--
i would have traded your 3 hours in a bar, for our 3 hours on a boat/stuck in a "holding" room on Burano, and then have the ferry drop us off, on the isl. of venice, in only God knows where. No where near st. Mark's square--they wouldn't let us off at st. Mark's because they said it was flooding. so, we got dropped off, on "another" side of the island?????
only to wander in the blowing, and driving rain, for a couple of hours. Pretty eventful/no, awful, day. and one we will always remember.
