Departing Naples 9:15 a.m.
Hi, We are departing Naples 9:15 a.m. next October 2. We are planning on staying in Sorrento. Are we better staying in Sorrento and taking an early morning train or do you think wiser to go to Naples for the last night? I am not sure what time the trains run and how long a travel time. Also, I see Palazzo Starace has a minimum of 7 nights on a reservation (according to their website). Is that correct? Any other suggestions for a moderately priced B&B in Sorrento?
Thanks for your help and Happy Travels!

I stayed at Starace last month for 3 nights. They never mentioned a minimum. I thought it was a great, clean room for the price. They are usually quick to respond if you email them.
There are early trains that leave Sorrento. We took a 7am one, and I think there were earlier ones. To be safe though, you may want to hire a driver from Sorrento or stay in Naples. My vote would be to stay in Sorrento vs Naples.
There are many driver recommendations given here if you search for "sorrento driver" you'll probably find one.

If you take the 7:00 a.m. Circumvesuviana Train from Naples to Sorrento, it will take about an hour and a half to reach Naples Central Train Station, which brings you into Naples at 8:30 a.m., if the train departs Sorrento on time.
Where do you have to be at 9:15 a.m.?

Sorry I guess my question was unclear. I forgot to say that it was a 9:15 a.m. flight out of Naples in route to Florida with a stopover in Venice. I am hoping that it is a one hour check-in. I will check with Alitalia.
I have not emailed Palazzo Starace yet but I will. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi again, I just tried locating an email address for Palazzo Starace but don't see anything listed. When I went online and tried booking it said "no online availability." Skymcc, how did you book your reservation? Thanks!

Carole - The Curreri airport shuttle leaves Sorrento at 06.45, arriving at the airport at 07.45.
Curreri's own website for the current timetable is:

Hope this helps ...

If you are not spending any time in Naples you might consider spending at least one night there and checking some of the must sees. There are some nice hotels that are reasonably priced, (try Hotel Rex) with great location to the part of Naples you would want to see. We loved wandering around Naples.
In Sorrento, if you don't get what you need at Palazzo Starace, there is a small hotel called Hotel Mignon I can highly recommend. Very reasonable rates.
Whatever you choose, have a wonderful trip.

Hi,
Holly - thank you for the website. I emailed them a reservation form so we will see what happens.
April - Hotel Mignon - Thanks for the suggestion. I will look into that one if the Palazzo Starace doesn't have availability.
Everyone else - thank you so much. I will look at the time charts and then make our decision. I was sort of nervous staying in Naples with everything I heard but with a last name of Napolitano I really think we should do one night at least - maybe the last night before our return.
For Capri we are thinking of doing one night - any suggestions where we would want to stay? We are an older couple and don't want anything too expensive.
Thanks again all for your input.
Happy Travels!

Hi Steve,
I contacted Curreri to see if they do an earlier shuttle. Our check in time is 7:15 a.m. - Ouch! (too early for me). Hopefully they can suggest something. Thanks for the suggestion.

Henry: I double checked the website and for some reason it went through this time. The schedule doesn't start early enough for me to get there for a 7:15 a.m. check-in. Any idea how long from the train station to the airport? Thanks again.

carolenap: are you sure that you need to check in 120 minutes in advance of a domestic flight? If so, you could take the Curcumvesuviana commuter train which leaves Sorrento at 5:01 and arrives at Napoli Centrale at 6:07. From there, you could take a taxi to the airport, or even the local city bus line which goes to the airport from Piazza Garibaldi. However, given the very long flight you are scheduled to take, you might want to simplify matter and hire a driver from Sorrento direct to the airport (this is not cheap).

I've read that some of the rooms at the P. Starace are on the 5th floor, with no lift. If that doesn't work for you, you might want to consider the Villa di Sorrento.

It's quite central, a few minutes walk from the train station.
