Support for the Swedes
I just wanted to let the Swedes Know how sad I am for the loss of your Foreign Minister Lindh. Last June, I had the wonderful chance to spend time in your beautiful and peaceful country. It sadens me that someone could do this and attempt to destroy all the hardwork you have done to have a peaceful and open society. My thoughts are with your people.

I am with you. It was a shock also in Finland. Politicians have always been ordinary people and have freely done their shopping and used public transportation without some security men following them. I really, really hope that it will not have to change. At least Sweden's prime minister Persson said that this calls for even more openness, so maybe there is hope that things can stay the way they are.
I am very sorry about Anna Lindh.

Anna Lindh was an credit to Sweden. The man who attacked her was wearing military camoflauge clothing, dropped the knife he used to stab her, and fled the scene. As far as I know, they have not apprehended him, and do not even know if the attack was politically motivated, although I think chances are good it was.

Very sad to hear about this...my sympathies too. After reading the article below, I have a difficult time believing this was just a random violent attack.
"Swedish Foreign Minister Dies After Knife Attack"

"Across this city of spires and waterways and grand castles, the blue-and-yellow Swedish banner flew at half-staff, injecting a profound melancholy just days before a scheduled referendum on joining the euro single currency in which Ms. Lindh had been a leading pro-euro campaigner. It was not known if her death was politically motivated."

Let me echo my great dismay at the sudden death of Anna Lindh. How tragic when senseless murders occur and of fine leaders! Certainly we in the U. S. have seen our share of such sad happenings. We were recently in Sweden and admire your country.
