Sunday night near CDG airport...help with food and hotel.

We need an air cond. hotel near CDG airport for one night, Sunday, paying anywhere from 80-150 a night. Any favorites? Don't need fancy, but want good bed and decent breakfast. Also, anywhere to eat a short cab ride away on a Sunday night? Thank you.

Try the Ibis. Actually, there are 2 near CDG. Rooms small but certainly adequate and reasonably priced. And there's food available.

We stayed at Ibis Charles de Gaulle Paris Nord 2 (rue de la Belle Etoile) Tel: 33 (0)1 48 17 56 51 Fax 33 )0)1 48 17 56 51

What it is lacking in "charme" it certainly makes up for in convenience. We arrived late and ended up in a wheelchair accessible room on the main floor-so our room was quite spacious. The price total was 81 euros including the breakfast which is a self-serve buffet at their cafeteria.

Right on the grounds is a "Courte-Paille". Certainly not dining, but the food was very good and reasonable with a variety to choose from. It was quite crowded, but we got to know some nice people in the process.

Be sure and get a confirmation # as there are actually 3 Ibis under Charles de Gaulle-Roissy title.

Why not stay in Paris and cab to the airport in the morning?

ACCOR Int'l has some hotels at CDG - modern reasonably priced. Call 800-221-4542 - US booking agent. Ask about Novotel for one of the better ones.

According to Rick Steves' Paris 2002 guidebook, the Hotel Ibis closest to CDG is outside the RER Roissy Rail station for T-1 (the first RER stop coming from Paris) and has a free shuttle bus. He mentions a second Ibis hotel in the village of Roissy, a 15-minute drive from the airport, and says it also provides a shuttle service. He makes no reference to the third Ibis hotel. The first Ibis is a two-star hotel and the price in Rick's book for a double with bath is 85E. He also mention Novotel (three stars) and quotes a price of 133-145E for a double with bath. However, he says nothing about Novotel having shuttle service.

Suggestion. Do not stop at CDG. Go direct by RER to Denfert Rochereau / 30 mins and worth it/ Go to Rue Delambre 300 yards/ book Hotel Delambre. Good not Expensive VERY Clean and exactly where you should be, in the middle of the best restaurants of Montparnasse. Go through the small cinema mall opp hotel turn left and book a table in "La Coupole". It is very well known one of the best in paris, and VERY good. Not too expensive. Enjoy check and book the hotel Delambre on the web.

Other less obvious options I've noted from other Fodorite posters

Chateau d'Ermenonville south of senlis near CDG room for $125
http://www.chateau-ermenonville.com/accueiluk.htm

Chateau Chaumontel in Luzarche also near CDG www.chateau-chaumontel.fr/

Chateau de Montvillargenne 15 mins from CDG listed in www.chateaudemontvillargenne.com

We stayed one year at the Hotel Montsouris because it was the last Arr. close to the airport. Clean, simple. but across from the beautiful parc.

I've used the Ibis at CDG (the one listed as Aeroport-Garea, not the one in Roissy)a couple times in just this situation and found it perfect. No frills in the room but adequate and very clean, great beakfast buffet and even a bar/lounge and decent restaurant for an evening meal. Can't beat the price and the shuttle takes you right to the terminal. If you want more luxury there are other airport hotels, but this works for me.
If an extra evening in the city is too enticing to resist, you can always arrive late, or even check in and then take RER back into the city. It's so convenient to wake up so close to the terminal, and not have to deal with Parisian traffic or public transport in order to start the trip.
Oh, yes - online at www.ibishotel.com, and the code for this property is 1404

Hi!
I don't know a lot of hotels in this area but I can advise you to go to the Hotel Saint Ferdinand: http://www.etoile-saint-ferdinand.com/index.html
I think it's quite hard to find a good hotel, not too expensive, near the airport. Visit their website and you'll see....
Have a good trip in Paris.

I agree with some of the previous posts about the IBIS hotels near CDG as I visited all 3 locations last year (we got lost finding our actual location). We stayed at the location on 2,avenue de la Raperie which is the 2nd nearest location to CDG (5 minute free shuttle). We paid around 70 Euros last September. The hotel has a nice buffet dinner as well as breakfast. Their website is www.ibishotel.com. Have a great trip!!! Mike B.

I can't help with where to stay, but definitely DON'T stay at the Comfort Inn CDG. The people were very nice, but the room was FILTHY...dirty sheets; dirty towels in the bathroom. Couldn't get the front desk to understand that I needed clean linens..finally took the dirty ones downstairs and went to the housekeeping closet to get new ones and made the bed myself. By the way...no real mattress...just a thick foam pad. The good news is that it was only $45....but I would have paid double that to have a clean room on our last night!!

We stayed at the CDG Novotel in July. It even had A/C, which for those of you who traveled this past summer knows was a real treat during the hot wave!! Ample room size, a double plus a twin, internet special price included very nice buffet breakfast. I think it was around 100 Euros for everything. There was even a shuttle that ran quite often to the airport. Very convenient. Dinner at their restaurant was good as well.

I am looking into your many excellent suggestions. Does anyone have experience with the Marriott Courtyard about 2 miles from CDG? It is aircond. and I think we will need that. The Ibis didn't list aircond. Courtyard is 150 Am. dollars . Am I wrong about the Ibis? Would prefer to stay there based on comments.

I stayed at the Courtyards by Marriott for one night a couple of weeks ago. It is a gorgeous hotel! It's only a year old, and everything is really perfect. A beautiful lobby, efficient staff, extremely comfortable, modern rooms - and a very nice restaurant, which is in a big open area that looks onto thelobby. The soundproofing in room was great - I could hear nothing outside, or inside the hotel. The hotel seems to cater to business people, and there were also Japanese tourist groups. The restaurant was a little pricey, but good. They had a huge buffet breakfast, with absolutely everything for 13 euros, or continental for 11 euros.

I got this hotel on Priceline for $65.00, plus $10.00 tax. I couldn't believe what a bargain! They have a shuttle to airport for 5 euros roundtrip. Ifyou get on Priceline, choose a 3-star at the airport (I've been told that the Marriott is the only 3-star they have, hope that's still true). Anyway, at first I bid $55.00, and didn't get it - so waited the 3 days
(which you have to to re-bid) and got it for $65. Worth a try! Even without the great Priceline price, you would like this hotel.

Heads up, Sue4 and anyone who decides to bid a CDG hotel on PriceLine hoping for the Marriott Courtyard. Priceline has very recently slipped a second hotel into their 3* CDG category. I've recommended here at Fodors several times using PL to bid on a CDG hotel at the 3* level, knowing that the Marriott Courtyard was the only possibility. To my great surprise and dismay, I found the second hotel when checking out my own trip possibilities for the spring.

Go to www.biddingfortravel.com and scroll way down to Europe Hotels, click on France and click on the France Hotel List, scroll down to Paris airports and you'll see the Courtyard listed along with the Mercure St. Witz Paris Nord. I was less than impressed. There's a link to the hotel's website from BFT. Their map doesn't show the distance from CDG to the hotel, but I'm guessing that a CDG shuttle would not be a possibility. I'm really bummed!

Aaaak! I just went to Bidding for Travel and PL has within the last day or two added a THIRD hotel near CDG! This is a Novotel that is 15 MILES away, definitely not within an easy shuttle ride.

Say it isn't so!

I'll list this as a separate post for those who may not open this one.

Betsy, Sue, et al, if that recently added Novotel is the Marne La Vallee Novotel (twinned with an Ibis, they share the main entrance area), avoid it at all costs. The hotels themselves are fine, nothing beyond the norm, but the location is downright scary, esp. if you're traveling in winter months when it's dark early. We stayed there in 2001 and were shocked. The RER station is close by, but the entrance is down a very dark street (fairly dark even during the day) and in the daylight hours, we could see it had BLOODSTAINS all over. I had gone into Paris from there in early afternoon and got back around 8 pm and had to call my husband to come get me. Every single woman leaving the station had someone come meet her. A really creepy place. Also, it was quite a drive to CDG. We hit very heavy traffic and it took us over an hour to drive the 15 miles. Never again! (And I am usually quite satisfied with Accor hotels)

Yikes, BTilke! Bloodstains?! Evidently the new hotel is not the same one, thank goodness. It's the Novotel Paris Survilliers. Do you know anything about that one?
