Sunday in Vienna...open or closed?

We will be soon travelling to Vienna & our arrival day is Sunday morning.

Are shops/restaurants etc open on Sundays? If so, is it all day or holiday hours (I'm in Wpg & holiday hrs are noon-5 or 6 pm)

Are Sundays a 'special' family type day or?

Thanks very much everyone...

Austria IME has one of Europe's most restrictive shopping hours.

Stores typically close at Saturday around 2pm and reopen Monday noon!

Cafes, restaurants are open but not many stores.

Christmas time may be exceptions or perhaps the laws have changed in the last few years.

Even unlike other countries with such restrictive opening laws it seems even train stations don't have mini-markets, just a limited kiosk it seems.

That said museums, etc. are open i think so the impact on the tourist is minimal.

Oh wow! Well, I can only hope it won't be too busy? lol That sure is early on Saturday, compared to what we are used to here.

What do the locals do on these days most times? Hopefully some locals will be on this board lol.

I guess living in Wpg, we just get used to almost not having to think about what to do with ourselves, due to so many things being readily available 7 days a week.

Bob has obviously not been to Vienna in many years.

Most stores are open all day saturday until 17:00- 18:00 ( 5--6 PM. ) Closed all day Sunday- reopening 9:30 - 10 on Monday.

The exception if you need food or other like items - most train stations have markets open all day Sunday.

Most all tourists sites are open Sunday.

Most city center restaurants are also open on Sunday. Some, especially those catering to Vienna business clients will be closed , but you will have no trouble finding many good places to dine.
Most all cafes will be open Sunday also.
Yes, Sunday is a family day. You will see families walking in parks in good weather - visiting museums etc.
No one here seems to have a problem with Sunday closings. It is nice to have a day of peace and enjoy times with friends and family - long walks- visiting and good times over food and some wine.
