Hi Mia,
If you mean "will it be mobbed?", no.

If I remember correctly, we went on a Sunday in April and there were plenty of people there, but it wasn't too terribly crowded. I would opt for going in the early a.m. That's what we did and it seemed to get more crowded as the afternoon approached.

We were there on a Sunday in March and the only terribly crowded part was the line to get in. I highly recommend buying a Carte Musee (somewhere else) and using it to bypass the line.

It probably will be crowded but manageable. If you don't have a museum pass when you go, you can buy a Versailles admission ticket at the RER station when you get your train ticket. It'll save waiting in line at the chateau.

Do they still run the fountains and music on Sundays? It is an extra charge correct?

We'll be in Paris for a few days in mid May. Versailles is high on our list of things to do, but I'm torn between going on Sunday or Tuesday. We would love to see the fountains, but don't want to go on Sunday if it's a mob scene. Any input?

I really had no desire to see Versailles but was (fortunately) taken against my will. This was the first Sunday in April of 2002. By serendipity that was the first day of the “season” that they’d turned on the fountains. They were also playing classical music from strategic speakers all around the palace. Versailles is big enough to handle just about any crowd you care to throw at it, but yes, there was a line to buy tickets for the tour inside the palace. Not excessive lines, mind you, but there were lines. NOTHING like at the Louvre or the Eiffel Tower. I certainly wouldn’t say that I’d advise anyone not to go just because the fountains might be off, but I must say they add tremendously to the experience.
