Summer 2015 trip

Hi, we are 4 friends planning a 12 days vacation in August to Prague, Budapest and croatia. we are not sure if the number of days are enough but we can't have more.

the plan is to start by Prague (2 nights), Budapest (3 nights) and the rest in Croatia. we still planning about what and where to visit in croatia, we heard about Hvar, split and dubrovnik but still indecisive. since we will be doing sightseeing in Prague and Budapest, we want different activities in croatia (beach parties, good nightlife but we prefer the commercial R&B type not trance).

so what do you advise for Croatia? and for how many days? and what to skip?
Plus we didn't book the flight yet, so we dont know what to start with: Prague or Budapest and which of them has a better and less hours transportation to split (since we dont want to visit Zagreb)

I would really appreciate your help

Is the 12 days inclusive of your arrival and departure days? How will you get form city to city? What do you want to see/do? Anything you want to avoid?

No matter how you decide to divide your time, I must say that Prague is a gorgeous city--"Golden Prague," it's called. I wasn't nearly as impressed with Budapest.

Whatever you decide, I think you should book tickets so that you arrive and depart at different cities so that you don't spend time revisiting a city that you've already seen.

It really depends on what YOU want to see and do, but FWIW, I would find this trip WAY too fast paced. Just for comparison, I thought 4 full days too little in Prague, 4 full days too little in Budapest, and was hard-pressed to fit my highest priorities for Croatia into a mere 3 weeks (actually 4 weeks, if you count my excursions into nearby countries.)

I recommend that you get some good guidebooks (or spend some time with a few in your local library), identify the things you most want to see in each location, note their opening/closing times, and mark them on a calendar. Then pencil in your transportation, add some time on either side (for getting to/from your lodging, checking in/out, packing/unpacking, getting oriented, etc.). Then see how things fit together.

FWIW, I found the Rough Guide particularly useful for planning time in Croatia.

I would chose either Budapest and Prague or just Croatia for your 12 (potentially 10 due to your arrival/departure days) for your trip.

Croatia is very popular in August, by the way. As so can Prague and Budapest, but they are away from the beaches so might not be as busy with vacationing Europeans.

It does ultimately depend on what you and your friend want to do, so I suggest you guys research guidebooks and then come together and discuss what you want and come to a consensus.
