Edward, hate to break the news but if you are walking around with luggage of any kind, local people know you are a visitor.

How so? You could be leaving, not arriving.

Another vote for osprey. Their wheels are especially good. The sojourn that I have can be carried as a backpack and rolls really well

My vote would be for a suitcase with wheels over a backpack.

"I guess what's been said above makes it : in backpack all our clothes get wrinkled, but men don't care much.
In rollers, women keep their clothes neatly folded."

Exactly.

Another thing that I like about a suitcase on wheels is that when I am standing around waiting, I can just stand or sit next to my suitcase. When its time to go, I just grab the handle and wheel it with me. Easy. With a backpack, I have to either keep carrying it while waiting, or take it off and set it down - and if there isn't any place to set it, I have to put it on the ground or the floor, then put it back on my back when its time to go. It can be a bit of a hassle, but more importantly, whatever was on the floor or ground, is now on the pack and then on my back. Extra fun when you need to use the restroom and there isn't anyplace to hang the bag. Ick.

I would go on suitcase. Suitcases are great, it will keep your stuff organized and far more accessible than backpacks. You can grab anything you need out of your bag without moving anything else. You don't also have to carry all the weight on your shoulders that cause back pain. Wheels and a handle allow for easy transport and convenient.
