There is place that I think may be ideal for you: it is less than two hours from the international airport of Milan Malpensa and is a mountain valley that has remained unspoilt. In fact it is yet to be discovered my many: it has culture, history, art and religious interest, stunning landscape, skiing in winter and all kinds of sports activities in summer, from walking to river sports, something for all age groups. It is close to the production area of some if the finest super Piedmontese reds, and boasts excellent local cuisine, locally produced cheeses, specialties, and a wealth of handcrafts: wood, lace, local mountain slippers - fabulous presents to take home. the name of the valley is Valsesia and you will find information fairly easily on the Net. But it is a little publicised destination, hotels are few. The main destination towns are Varallo (for art and beauty, but only 3 star hotels) and Alagna for stunning mountain scenery and more choice in hotels (two 4 stars in the area). There are many bed and breakfast places but the most romantic spots are definitely where the better hotels are. Should you wish for any further information, I would be delighted to give you a hand. I hope you find your holiday spot!

Could you narrow down your likes and dislikes a bit. To me, the isles in Greece equal the splendor of the snow filled alps (any of them). Both are very different. I personally love the hill towns in Italy and the dramatic rolling hills of southwest Ireland.

Paris is indeed incredibly romantic. Its a beautiful city and strolling hand-in-hand with my DH down the Siene at night was quite romantic.
Maybe not the first place that comes to mind, but I found Rome to be incredibly romantic as well. I usually travel to Rome during the off-season months so its not very crowded. Sitting in an outdoor cafe with a cappuccino and a beautiful fountain as a backdrop is quite romantic, as is seeing the pantheon and forum lit up at night as you walk Rome's cobblestone streets.

Do not pass Go, go directly to the most romantic village of Oia on the spectacular island of Santorini in the Aegean Sea. If that doesn't get your motor running nothing will!

These are some great suggestions, especially some of the out of the way spots.
I am curious to do more research about Paris and Venice. I know these are known as romantic spots, but what are some highlights to try in these spots?
And Jersey -- I think we are more inclined to do cooler spots, since I am thinking about summer time.

A boat ride down that Seine at night - kiss when you go under the bridges - drink wine, watch the Eiffel Tower sparkle.
Hand in hand walk along the Seine and look at the bouquinists... (spelling police will be rabid with me...)
Wonderful cafe's to share a cafe or a wine.
A lovely hotel room with a view of the chimney pots on rooves ... that seem to go on forever.
Teas and hot chocolates... macaroons...
Wonderful restaurants or serendipity finds of good restaurants that no one recommends...Cheeses...
Shopping for gifts to bring home to your family...and some one thing special to remember the anniversary.
I was last there on my honeymoon in October. That's how romantic I think it is.
