your posting has only proven to me what I always suspected - those who rent cars have not planned their trips very well.

But, the purpose of my previous post was to point out the error in what you said earlier.

"You say: I want a good dose of mountains and small towns. You then get a response that says, There is no reason to rent a car. The answer is self-evident: Please rent a car!"

I just showed that, contrary to your ascertation, it is just as possible to see mountains and small towns with the train.

Wow, some nasty folks here! There really isn't a "right" way and a "wrong" way to do this. Public transportation has advantages and disadvantages. Auto travel has advantages and disadvantages.

Each individual really has to decide what he/she wants out of his/her travel experience, and then make the appropriate choices.

Some people never want to mess with a car. Fine. Some people want to get to out of the way places easier and make spontaneous stops without jumping out of the window of a moving train. Fine.

But neither is right or wrong, or a better or worse planner, or a fool, or an idiot, or a tool of Satan.

Thanks, Rufus.

BTW, I saw "Duck Soup" the other night on TV and I thought of you...

Just filled my gas tank. We have a diesel Hyundai Sante Fe. It came to SFr. 98.--. Diesel is not cheap in Switzerland.
