Suggestions for special place to stay between Pisa and Cinque Terre

Hello

My friend and I are going to Cinque Terre in early October. We fly in to Pisa, and have 5 nights. Nights 2,3 and 4 we are in Cinque Terre (Manarola) and that accommodation is already booked. However the hotel in CT does not have availability for nights 1 or 5, so we need an idea on where to stay for those nights.

This is a special birthday celebration, and we'll be doing a lot of walking and sightseeing in CT, so what we are looking for for nights 1 and 5 is really somewhere special to stay and relax. It could be a fancy hotel with a spa, a farmhouse with a lovely restaurant, a castle etc. We'll only be there for 1 night.

We will be travelling by train, so ideally looking for somewhere that is within a taxi ride from a train station.

Thanks a million in advance

Jane

How early do you land in Pisa on day #1?

Where do you go after night #5? Back to Pisa?

What's your budget?

Hi - sorry, I should have given that info in the original post. We land in Pisa around lunchime on day 1, and our flight back from Pisa on day 6 is in the evening.

We don't really have a buget per se, but do want to get somewhere nice, so I suppose the range would be for a room costing anything from EUR150 to EUR500 per night

Thanks a lot

Jane

Santa Margharita Ligure is a perennial favorite with posters here - it is beyond the 5 Terre but not far - a lovely seaside town with an active fishing industry - and is only a few miles from famous Portofino - lots of lovely walks right from SML to Portofino and other gems along the coast.

Here's one option, 45 minutes by train from the Pisa Airport:

My first thought is to blow out the budget at the Splendido in Portofino.

However, there are several very nice hotels in Santa Margherita Ligure that will fit your budget.

I would stay in Lucca for real Tuscan ambiance and great food.

Thanks a lot guys - I had initially ruled out Portofino on the basis that it was on the "wrong side" of CT but based on your posts I should definitely look again at it. I will also check out all the other suggestions - appreciate that.

If anyone else has any ideas would love to hear them

Many thanks

Jane

I also found a couple of other places online - does anyone have any thoughts on these? La Sota di Ottone III in Chiesanova and Il Bottaccio (4kms from Forte dei Marmi station)

Both look lovely but not the type of place I would enjoy for a single night. But that's me. I like being able to walk out of the lodging, stroll around a town in the evening and see my dining options. These two properties are rather remote.
