Suggestions for Mar Rome trip
This will be my 2nd trip, my husband's 1st. I would like to visit another city in Italy so that I don't feel like I'm repeating my 1st trip. We will be there for about 8 days in Mar. Does anyone have a suggestion on where we can go via train or motorcoach? As a true American, my knowledge of geography is abhorrent (no offense anyone) so I have no idea if a city like Venice, for instance, is out of the question. Thanks for the help!

Venice is 4.5 hrs by train, and generally a pleasant ride (all the more so in first class, in my opinion - - and especially if you spring for the overpriced white tablecloth service in the dining car). Don't go to Venice for less than 36-48 hrs.
Or go to Florence - - surprisingly only 95 minutes away by train (something like 160 miles!). Florence COULD be a day trip with an early departure, museym RESERVATIONS, and a well thought-out plan.
Best wishes,
Rex

I'm going to Rome the first week in April with a group of six. Some of us have been to Rome a few times while others have never been to Italy before. We're planning on taking a day trip to Orvieto so they can get a feel for a hill town, and a day trip to Naples so I can buy a (some?) precepi. Both are easy trips for one day.
