Suggestions for itinerary

My wife and I are going the Vienna for five days in August and were planning to fly to Copenhagen for a week and then home. A travel agent suggested we visit Zurich instead of Copenhagen because of time spent traveling between cities and expense.

Zurich doesn't look that exciting. Can anyone suggest a itinerary for a week trip in Switzerland?

I would simply look for a new travel agent who can find you a way to travel to Copenhagen for about the same or even less than this one was finding for you to go from Vienna to Zurich. How much more travel time are we talking here? Maybe an hour longer flight? Hogwash. Go where you want, not where the travel agent wants.

Meanwhile I'd sure think a week in Copenhagen can actually cost considerably less that a week in Zurich, just this week again referred to as "Europe's most expensive city". Was that in Travel and Leisure I read that?

I enjoyed Zurich; lots of great art, if that's your thing. Check out whichbudget.com, as there might be some airlines that fly from Bratislava or Vienna to Copenhage.

Wow, I also say get a new travel agent. If you want to go to Coppenhagen, then you should go there. Flights from Vienna to Copenhagen take 3.5 hours. I don't view that as a long trip. While Copenhagen is pretty expensive, esp for hotels, so is Switzerland and in particular Zurich. I am amazed at this reccomendation by your agent.

I used to live in Zurich and I love it, but I don't understand why someone would sned you there when you asked about a compeltley difernet place. Note that Saturday 12 August 2006 is when the Street Parade is held in Zurich and I would AVOID Zurich during that weekend. This is the annual hip hop parade, much like the Love Parade in Berlin, and about a million 20-somethings descend on the town for a weekend of incredibly loud music and ecstasy-fuelled street raging.

I would stick with Copenhagen and ditch the agent. You don't seem to have a whole lot of interest in Switzerland anyway, so I would not suggest you spend your time (and a lot of money) on it. It is a lovely place, but not everyone wants to go there, and it sounds like you don't.

Thanks everyone. Just used the suggested link and found Air Berlin to Copenhagen for 127 euro each. Not bad.

I think Air Berlin is pretty good from what I've read. Now any suggestions for four star hotels in Copenhagen?

Zurich isn't bad for a day - and there's lots to see in Switzerland - but why do that if you want to see Denmark. Agree you need a better travel agent - try to find one with some experience in europe (like havin gactually been there him/herself).

IMHO most chain/local agents are useless for anything but selling tours or tickets to Orlando.
