Suggestions for Improved Fodor's Format, Anyone?

It would be so great if when you did a text search, the same words appeared in a highlighted color in the response text. It is frustrating having to read numerous responses that have nothing to do with your search before finally getting to the one you need down the line. How liberating to zip down until the colored text appears. And since Fodors has managed to "color" the "screen name" and "reply", I assume it's not that difficult to do.

Anyone else like to see something new/changed on this site?

The ability to go back into one's posts and edit (after you have posted).

What you suggest would certainly be nice, Klondike but, for the time being, you can use the "Find" function to find particular text once you "open" (i.e. you're at the post-a-reply stage) a thread.

capo, would you go over that again? I don't see any "find" button when I am posting a reply (like now).

The last batch of improvements were fantastic. I really appreciate being able to jump to the latest post on a thread and being able to pull up all posts I have added to with one click on my name.

Now if they'd just clarify that the country you click on when you post a new message does NOT appear in the heading (or make it so it does appear) it would save a lot of newcomers some hassle.

I'm with some other posters who suggested that when a country is selected, that they country show up before the title on the left hand list. I guess you'd need a "Multi" in the pulldown list for multiple country itinerary questions and a "General" option for when it was a question about stuff like money belts.

Would also be nice if the search function by country didn't show a lot of general threads. Try highlighting "Albania" and clicking the "find" button and you'll see what I mean. You'd scroll forever looking for the few threads that actually have the word "Albania" in them. General topic threads match every country search.

All in all though, I really do enjoy this board.

Hi Marilyn,

If you have a PC, do "CTRL + F". You will get a box that asks you what you want to find.

Marilyn, in addition to what Ira mentioned, you can also click on "Edit" on your browser menu, and then click on "Find" in the drop-down box. (Why "Find" was put under the "Edit" heading rather than under something like "Tools" is beyond me.)

Thanks, capo. I'm always amazed at the little tricks people know about using common software that I'm unaware of.

In my experience, very few people know what "I'm feeling lucky" does on Google, for example.

LOL

Speaking of the Google "I'm feeling lucky" function - try using that button when searching for "weapons of mass destruction" - no quotes.

I think Fodor's should send everyone who posts on this board on an expense-paid, three week trip to wherever that person wants to travel. That person would be required to post all his/her notes so that Fodor's could use that information in their guidebooks.

I also believe, that free drink coupons should be sent to all posters who have 100 or more posts in any one month period (excluding posts about tennis shoes).

If ctr-F doesn't do anything ctrl-alt-del will.

I have mentioned this several times...but, I wish that there were profiles that were accessable by everyone. I think it would be great to read info like age, hometown, favorite european city, favorite meal, touristic interests, etc. I think this would help to determine whose advice is more likely to match my personality and interests.

"Do posts about swimsuits count????"

As long as they are about women's swimsuits. Speedo posts should not be credited toward free drink coupons. As a matter of fact, I think speedo posts would be considered a one post reduction.

I wish Fodors would fix the Search option, so that EVERY time I typed in something (for instance, 'Yorkshire Dales'), it would appear, instead of the maybe-it'll-show-up-this-time-and-maybe-it-won't thing it's been doing lately. So so so frustrating!!!
