Suggestions for B&B in CORK?
Hello -
I am starting to plan my trip for April 2003, and am planning on staying 3 nights in Cork.
I don't want to spend too much per night, but will need parking. ( and 2 rooms - possibly 3 - 1 double & 2 singles not sure yet how we are breaking it up.)

Any suggestions? ( Yes it must be ENSUITE)

I am looking at the City of Cork, but will be venturing out on at least 1 of the days toward Cobh.

The easier the driving the better - Is Cork very busy? If we stay on the outskirts, is there public parking where we can walk from?

Not sure yet if I will be coming from Killarney or from Waterford - still need to work out the specific itinerary.

thanks for the help.

The following are cheap, but not B&B's:

In Cork City there are a couple of budget hostels. Sheila's hostel is a 5-minute walk from the bus and train stations (where there is a regular bus service to Blarney). http://www.sheilashostel.ie/ Expect to pay 19-21 Euro for a double, 14-15 Euro for a quad, or 13.50 Euro for a 6 bed dorm.
Another lodging option in Cork City is Kinlay house (in the city center (10-minute walk to the bus station)). http://www.kinlayhouse.ie/usitaccom/...ork/index.html tel: 021-4508966 Email: [email protected] Expect to pay the following 14-15 Euro for a dorm, 18 Euro per person in 3-6 bed room, 20-22 Euro per person for double, and 25.50 for a single. They have free breakfast and have internet access.
I hope this doesn't sound too disparaging, but I drove through the city of Cork and didn't find it very appealing as a tourist destination.

Not far from Cork, we stayed in a beautiful farmhouse called Ballymakeigh House. Mrs. Browne has won awards for her cooking and the place was lovely. It's in a town called Youghal.

Cork city is a great place to visit- it's best to walk around it as it has a one-way system that makes driving a headache. There is public parking but it operates on a disc system (usually maximum stay is 2-3 hours). There's also high rise cark parks around the centre. Price varies per hour (c. 2euros+ an hour)Re Cork being unappealing: the previous message was obviously from someone who didn't take too much time to look around on foot!
re places to stay:
Kinlay house ok and central, as hostels go. there are alot of B+Bs along a road called the Western road, which is about 10mins walk from the city centre. If you want to stay nearer the centre there's Jurys Inn- the rates vary but you could check it out on www.jurys-doyle.com
There's also an Ibis hotel in a place called Little Island about 6miles from the centre (also on a direct suburban train link). Not sure of the website address.
Re Cobh- lovely, unusual town - home of all things Titanic (I am biased as I live there!) . Lots of B+Bs- e.g Robin Hill (expensive), Tearmann and Westbourne House. Also, Commodore Hotel and the Water's Edge hotel.
Near Cobh is Fota Wildlife park, which would be good for an afternoon with children (if you have them)
Re Youghal: Nice town, there's a great place called Aherne's which is a restaurant and b+b/hotel.
Kinsale- rather touristy but alot of very good restaurants.
If you are only going to stay around the city, maybe with a day trip to Cobh, you might find that you don't need a car.
Let me know if you need any more information.
Have a good stay!
