We hired a driver from Milan (MXP) to SML since we had just arrived after long flights and wanted to get there as early as possible. We used Davide at www.davideguerrera.com. It was expensive, so the train is a great option. For us, it was worth hiring a driver as it was the start of our trip and all. Had we been in Milan, rather than the airport, we would have gone by train. We also used Davide to go from Bellagio back to MXP as we had an early flight.

I can confidently recommend him if you decide not to take the train.

It will take about as long to drive as it will to go by train.

A limo will be around 150E.

The train to SML-Portofino is 21E in 1cl on the IC+.
