suggestion 2/3 day stop between Avignon and Paris
Had planned to stop in Beaune for 2/3 days, on route to Paris at end of our stay in Provence, however looking for alternate town as some of the party have visited Beaune twice before. Any suggestions would be most welcome

Dijon would be my choice. Lots to do in Burgundy. You could dump the car in Dijon (if it's a rental/leased car) and take the TGV to Paris or CDG
If your travel mates who visited Beaune also visited other sites in Burgundy, consider Chambery or Annecy in the Alps. You can catch trains from there to Paris also.

What about Annency? It's a little out of the way but a beautiful spot that is quite different from either Avignon or Paris. It is on Lake Annency with the alps towering above and quite small. Seems like an undiscovered town for Americans as well.
