suggested day excursions

First of all, thanks to everyone on the board that has given such great advice in the planning of my honeymoon!

We have decided on the Loire Valley for a day and 1/2 trip with a stay at Rochecotte. The remainder of our trip will be in Paris, but we want to take at least one other day trip. We have been thinking about Rouen, Reims, Chartes, Foutainbleau and Versailles. Any suggestions for someone who has never been to France and is on their honeymoon?

Hi cr,

How about Versailles on a Sunday when the fountains are operating?

We are scheduled to be in the Loire Valley on Sunday! Do the fountains operate any other day of the week?? Is Versailles open on Dec 24/25 and should we plan on spending the entire day there?

Hi cr,

Here is the official website for Versailles.

www.chateauversailles.fr

I'm afraid that the fountains won't be on in Dec.

You want to leave Paris on Xmas?

Chartres would be lovely. The medieval town is fascinating to wander in, and of course the cathedral is magnificent. It's an easy half-day trip from Paris by train. Rouen would require at least a day; Fontainebleau is another half-day trip by train and bus. For Versailles you'd want a day; you can get there on the RER.

The fountains at Versailles close for the season in October.

I was going to suggest a day trip to Giverny to see Monet's gardens, but that should be done in the blooming season.
