I have taken this Delta flight back to ATL from STR, and you will be in fine shape. Stuttgart's airport is not that large or complicated. Delta has its own check in area --- far left side of check-in counter area. (At least, it usually is there)
The only bad thing I found in Stuttgart is that Delta uses the Air France business class lounge, and it is horrible. If you are flying coach, then you won't have to experience that.
And one hint: if you are leaving on a weekend to fly back, check out the Mövenpick hotel site. They have a great hotel right at the airport, and on weekends they often offer rooms at 50% off and more. And the restaurant is top quality. In this way, you stay in a quality room and don't have to take the S-Bahn to the airport in the morning.

ira with a question, eh Wow! I obviously have spent enough time here!
(BTW I am not being satirical.... I am actually being respectful.... you seem to have so many answers and are always helpful)
Bring your german slang book with ya. If you get too delayed in a line or something, it may help if you are more colorful than "schnell schnell"! Just kidding
