Stuttgart accomodations
Hi we are looking for accomadations in Stuttgart and there doesn't seem to be much selection in July. Does anyone have any suggestions. We need a private room for 3 people. Also any recommended sites in the areas? Thanks.

hi there,
so many questions to Your question:
how long?
which budget?
which area?
what is a private room?
Did You try the official tourist site? I guess 90% of all accos in Stuttgart are to find there.
And about the sites: What are You interessted in? Did You have a car? Perhaps age.
Culture: Staatsgalerie and Kunsthalle, Opera and Apollo Theater (musicals).
History: Old castle and Stiftskirche, Esslingen and Museum of Histroy.
Architecture: TV-tower, Weißenhof-Siedlung, Main station, Staatsgalerie, Mercedes-Benz museum
Specials: Markthalle, Besen (private wine bars), Milchbar (view from the top)
Nature: Neckar cruising, Wilhelma (zoo), Bärensee (a walk in the woods)
have fun

For finding hotels in Germany, I normally use www.hrs.de
If you don't find a huge choice, there might be a trade fair in twon when you plan to visit. In that case the prices go up and selection down. The next weekend, things are back to normal, so if you can move the date you want to visit, it would really help with the hotel search.

hrs.de will have about 20-30% of the accommodation available in a town. The website of the local tourist office has close to 100%, including private rooms, self catered apartments, small inns and everything. hrs is good for comparing hotel prices, but I'd always start with the tourist information site.

In the city center you are pretty much limited to a handful of large hotels. Of these, the Steigenberger is probably the most highly regarded, but also the most expensive. Stuttgart is more of a commercial center than a tourist destination so you are going to find hotels catering to businesspeople (which also means a triple room might be hard to find). Unless there is a huge event or trade show going on in town, you should be able to find a room without too much trouble. Further from the city center you will have more varied lodging options and you can easily get downtown on the U-Bahn, but parking may be more difficult if you have a car.
Stuttgart's tourism website has a hotel search function:
www.stuttgart-tourist.de/index_ENG.htm
gargamel listed many of the top attractions. I would add that the city's main drag is the Koenigstrasse, and you will find many of the major sights within walking distance of this street - the New and Old Palaces, Schlossplatz and Schlossgarten, Schillerplatz, Stiftskirche, Markthalle (a must-see if you are a foodie), as well as the older shopping streets of the Bohnenviertel and Calwerstrasse. The Mercedes musuem is a must for car-lovers - it's out in the "suburbs" but easily reached by public transportation or car. Another fun outing (giving great views of the city and region) is the Fernsehturm (TV tower).
Are you interested in day trips from Stuttgart? A few of my favorites include the university town of Tuebingen which has a lovely historic center, the medieval village of Bad Wimpfen (set on a cliff overlooking the Neckar River), and Burg Hohenzollern (a beautifully restored, very dramatic castle).
