Student in Madrid in July

My dear daughter will be studying in Madrid in July. Know it's hot...but any suggestions as to the best way to handle the heat? Also...what type of bag is safest.....messenger or backpack

She really needs to find accommodation with air conditioning. It can get over 40C (105F) in the shade. And access to a swimming pool.
As for daily strategy, it's reasonably cool in the morning, so try to get shopping, private study etc done before midday. It will stay hot till sunset around 7 pm. Follow the locals and have a long siesta and eat and enjoy nightlife after 9 pm.
Use backpack for travel, and messenger type for carrying books, pads and pens.

If by any chance she will be studying at the Complutense university, she will have access to a very nice swimming pool.

Bye, Cova

Messenger bags are safer than backpacks, imo.
