Please give names and addresses of B&B's in Windsor that are that cheap. It seems to me that NO B&B in the London area is a bargain. Jade would be better off at an a/p hotel, she would not have to worry about getting in at 8 a.m. (traffic you know). Stay in an a/p hotel and if up to it take the tube into London in the evening. Makes the most sense.

My husband and I had a 16 hour layover in London.. by the time you disembark, get luggage, go through passports etc, given delays, it ended up about 14 hours. We lockered up our luggage *there are lockers at the Heathrow Express station, took the tube to Hyde park,, took a brisk stroll through the park..(it was October and simply fantastic) went to a restaurant, had a big meal.. (real food not plane food) and a pub.. then back to the aiport for a shower and to nap in shifts until our plane left. It went really fast.

Jade,
I don't know what is wrong with the people on this chat line, however I stand by what I said. I lived in London for years and have travelled the world non-stop for business for over 10 years. Apparently the other folks are novices without the inside track. Believe me you will be fine in any 3 or 4 star hotel lobby in London for a night as long as you don't act like a derelict which was hardly the impression I got from letter. London has plenty of affordable day spas as well. I do think that the best suggestion in terms of convenience and low cost so far came from the person who recommended a B and B in Windsor, I forgot that option since I personally would never waste chance to spend MORE TIME in central London. Beware of some of the respondents, their only travel is apparently virtual -- via this forum! Those of us in the know, know.

P.S. If your airline offers earlier flights to your return destination, you can always stand-by for an earlier flight EVEN IF you have a non-refundable, non-changeable ticket, for no extra cost. If they have an emtpy seat in your class of service it can be yours. I would definitely try this option, at least check your airline's flight schedule and you could even call their 800# and find out how heavily the earlier flights are loaded to see what your probabilities will be.

Liz, can you READ???
If you go back to Jades original post you would discover that she was asking for an "inexpensive" way of spending her time. You came back with the following:
Spa
Shopping
Nice supper
Bar Hopping
and then you would have her stake out a corner in a hotel where she may or may not be able to rest.
Does that make sense to you?
Now that said, nobody is questioning your knowledge, although I would prefer to get a room instead of, the spa, if I could only afford one. That would seem like the thing to do. But everybody is different.
Jade, just this past weekend, we stayed at the newer Holiday Inn at Heathrow for 62 pounds/night in a family room because we had an 8 am flight. The first HoppaBus is at 5:30 and the cost is 4 pounds each. We opted for a taxi called by the hotel which was cheaper for a family of 4 as it only charged 8 pounds. The buses only operate to/from terminals 1,2,3 in case you are travelling to/from terminal 4 in which case you need to get the free train from 4 to terminal 3. I wouldn't stay in the airport myself and think the money spent on a room is worth the peace and rest. Hope this helps.
