I haven't found any really good quality street maps on the web. But, I have used Yahoo Maps when I have an exact street address and I want to plan car routes ahead of time. I must say, for not loving Yahoo anymore, this service is pretty damn good.

Hi eri - I've never been able to find decent street maps of European cities on the 'net. I always end up at a bookstore and prefer the small Michael Middleditch map books when I can get them for their detail and wealth of information. I don't know what Yahoo uses but MapQuest once had me driving into the Mississippi River with their directions so I'm reluctant to trust them.

Hi eri,

Here's the address for Great Britain street maps. It looks pretty good.

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/

I always use www.multimap.com

You can click on the country and then type in the details on the left hand side. 90% of the time it will circle where you want to be.

For driving instructions, try www.theaa.co.uk and then 'route planner'

A sample route of Paris to Berlin gives a total distance of 1,041 kilometers and 10.5 hours driving time!!

Thank you, Ally. Just tried my Rome apartment on MulitMap. Not bad but Yahoo lets you zoom in closer and offers traffic flow for drivers.

I use www.1bis.com for excellent maps of French cities. Not sure if it's as good for other countries. Just type in the city name under Ville ou CP and then zoom in or out as required. www.viamichelin.com and www.mappy.com are also reliable. The Michelin site has a great zoom and recentering function.

Over the years, I have collected quite a few very good street maps of major European cities from One Mapplace in Dallas.

My maps of Dublin, London, Munich, Paris, Vienna, Salzburg, and a few others are quite satisfactory.

I can usually email the owner and tell him what I want. We discuss the purchase before I spend my money.
So far I have been satisfied.

I like the mapeasy maps, but they only have a linited number of cities.

Some bookstores have a decent selection.

www.mappy.com - you can put in an itinerary, and select 'on foot' and it will provide a route and the meters/distance to walk it. (or drive it). I used this to determine if it was feasible to walk from train station to hotel, or if transportation would be preferred.

I have some incredible CDs that show maps and streets etc of major cities in Europe. One CD is Microsofts AUTO ROUTE 2001 GB. Actually I bought it online from a British company. If you want details let me know.
