Stratford-upon-Avon to Whitby where to stay for 1 night?
We have 1 night to fill in between our 2 lots of cottage bookings. Looking for suggestions. Have thought about York....we will have a car so would prefer to stay on the outskirts and bus or train into the city centre.
Any suggestions for York accommodation or perhaps another option would be most welcome!

If you want to stay outside York, but still close by then consider http://www.yorkblackbullinn.com/ at Escrick.
My brother stayed there when my nephew got married and he liked it a lot. The food was good too.
We stayed at www.parsonagehotel.co.uk/ also in Escrick, which is where the wedding was held.
Check the discounter websites - you can often get a good deal on the Parsonage, if it appeals to you.

We loved Number 34, a B&B in York http://www.number34york.co.uk/
Parking permit for spot right outside the door (well, it was for us; permit for parking on street though for sure) and then simply walk in to town, no need for public transport.
Lovely room, lovely host, quiet, convenient, nice breakfast
