Our lunch at Le Gavroche was wonderful! My husband still raves about the foie gras. If we had stayed overnight in Strasbourg we would definitely return for dinner.

I cannot remember the name of the place where we had one of the best meals and experiences, but I can tell you how to get there and hoe to recognize it. Go to quai de la Bruche in Petite Paris. Walk to the end of the square, facing Number 8 (Nathalies Airbnb, a great apartment). Turn left. Right across a little bridge, see pews and rusted baroque chairs. One word name, maybe Chut? Magical night, great French food. Wish we "found" what was at our front door earlier.

For Alsatian cuisine, two restaurants I have liked are the Winstub Au Saint-Sépulcre/Zuem Hailiche Graab, and L'Alsace à Table.

I haven't been to the Saint-Sépulchre in some years, but remember it as a very traditional winstub, serving simple Alsatian dishes very well. The years may not have been kind to it as many of these traditional places have changed with time. It's worth checking out, however.

L'Alsace à Table is primarily a seafood restuarant, and they do it very well. One of their specialties is a choucroute aux poissons, which seems a bit bizarre at first, but is delicious.

I wouldn't discount the historic but somewhat touristy Maison Kammerzell at the Place de la Cathédrale. I had a very good meal there on my last visit.

Regarding the restaurant in La Petite France which sharon21 mentioned, might it be L'Ami Schutz? I haven't eaten there but the reviews seem good and La Petite France is a very picturesque part of Strasbourg.
