Story on NBC news about falling dollar

NBC Nightly News ran a story tonight about the new strength of the Euro against the dollar. They interviewed an American couple who "had spent more than $1000 dollars on trinkets and souveniers alone" and showed this couple buying some magnets for $6 each near the Eiffel Tower. Granted, Europe is more expensive this summer for Americans than it was last summer. But I wish they had showed a more saavy tourist in the story!

Why do wish they would have shown a more savvy tourist in their report?

What would you expect out of the "major" networks? <BR><BR>Very little "news", and a lot of hype. Very typical.<BR><BR>Slanted

If they'd interviewed that couple a few months ago they would have spent about $900 on trinkets and souvenirs. Are we supposed to think that would have been reasonable? The dollar goes up, the dollar goes down, but the fiscally irresponsible are always with us.

Hello there everyone. The program didn't say something. Which is that we sell these trinkets on eBay when we get home. Last year Lucy and I made $1.5 million selling trinkets to other people. You know what they say, one man's $6 magnet is another man's treasure. We figured we make a darn good return on our investment and the euro and dollar thing going on doesn't really bother us much.<BR><BR>Have a nice day. Sure are some pretty buildings there in Paris, aren't there? <BR><BR>Jerry and Lucy

Well, Jerry & Lucy are taking advantage of the free enterprise system so really the euro/dollar ups and downs don't matter to them!

The same story interviewed a woman who looking at a menu posted outside a bistro. She was aghast, saying "$15 for a hamburger??"<BR><BR>(She probably went home saying, "I don't see what's so great about French cooking. I paid $15 for a hamburger that wasn't nearly as good as the ones I get at T.G.I. Fridays")<BR><BR>I say, if you're going to order a hamburger in Paris, you deserve to pay $15 for it.

Well, the woman could have gone to McDonald's and paid what-approx. $5?- for a hamburger. Oops, I said "McDonald's"; gee, no one should go to France and eat a hamburger much less at McDonalds, correct? Well, anyway, she could have done that.
