Stonehenge: new visitor centre opens
As part of the upgrade to facilities and access, the new visitor centre and exhibition are about to open, and from February, access to the stones themselves will be by timed ticket from the centre, from which visitors will have to take the transport supplied or walk about a mile and a half.

>> I think the walk would be the best way to approach<<
Tick V.G.
I too was underwhelmed the first time I saw the stones, arriving by car. But when I walked up to them from Amesbury, on a route that took me along some of the surrounding burrows, along the cursus and up from the bottom of the dip below, I got the point. And across the road and up the hill behind the stones, they can seem to disappear into the landscape - which makes their magical status all the more comprehensible.
