Stockholm apartment

We (family of four - daughters 21 and almost 18) just booked our flights for next summer and are now looking for accommodation. I like the looks of this place. We will be in Stockholm for 8 nights. What I'd like to know is: how is this location? Is it easy to access the man sites of Stockholm from here? Also, if you know, is it a safe neighborhood with shops and restaurants nearby?
I did read the description and comments and it sounds great, but getting info from you all who might be able to shed more light is valuable to us.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts,
Robert

If the information you provided indicates exactly where the apartment is, I'm sorry, but I didn't see it. Sodermalm is a large island; I don't think I can comment on the location without knowing more.

Unfortunately, airbnb won't provide a more exact location before booking. We've previously stayed in Sodermalm, towards Slussen, this seems closer to Mariatorget but looks good.

Eight days! Lucky you!

I can't speak to the apartment, but I did a Google Lens search on the building shown on the Airbnb site, and the building pictured, Fatbursbrunnen 12 and 3, showed up as being in the Maria Prastgårdsgata area at the corner of Timmermansgatan and Maria Prastgårdsgata. The building's history is sure interesting.

We stayed last June about a six-minute walk away from that Airbnb area at the Hotel Rival, which is right next to the Mariatorget park and nearer Slussen than you would be. You would be a tad closer to the Sodra train station than we were.

I loved staying on Sodermalm. In our home city, we had lived in a similar quiet urban family neighborhood with the same superb transport options to zip into our city center. I was a happy camper in Stockholm because our short commutes to Stockholm's sites involved terrific people watching. Disclaimer: Our own tramping about on the island was mostly started around the Mariatorget park heading towards Slussen to do all the Gamla Stan, Djurgarden, Ostermalm things. We didn't go your way.

As far as conveniences, I would do a Google Streetview walk around "the hood" to check out what's there for you. We didn't have to go out for coffee or breakfast; you probably would.

Stockholm's transport system (SL) is brilliant and relatively inexpensive (nothing else is in Stockholm!) and you could make this work IF this is the apartment where you want to stay there. Because you would be near the Sodra train station, you therefore would NOT have to rely on the expensive Arlanda Express for your arrival and departure. Instead, you could have a straight shot coming from the airport on the cheapie commuter train into Sodra (*see below). That
Airbnb area has several SL local bus routes and you would also be near the Mariatorget metro station.

Here's another thing: once you head towards your destination for sightseeing, chances are that five other things you want to see are often just yards away.

*I wrote a trip report for our last year's trip to Scandinavia, and the details on Stockholm are here. Scroll to Post #87. The transfer in from Arlanda did not quite go as I had planned. I had read an old post by our hotel's former concierge, and although prices and schedules had changed, the basic theory was sound. Stockholm locals had said much the same. We screwed up on the way in from the airport (although we were not financially penalized) because the staff at the Sky City desk and we seemed to have had a communication misunderstanding. You can easily avoid our hassle just by paying attention to our mistakes. We had no problems at all on the way back. We felt in terms of time and convenience (no transfer at City Center!), the commuter train was perfect.

Thanks for the help. We booked it. A better address is: Timmermansgatan 33.
AlessandraZoe - tanks for the link to your tr. I enjoyed reading it. We will also be there during Midsommer. Looking forward to it.
