Still trying to find a good book for my trip, help!
I'd like to find another "travel narrative" which is non fiction. I so enjoyed Elizabeth Gilbert's book "Eat, love, pray".
I've been to the bookstore and I can't find anything like that one. Do you know of any other books that has to do with Italy/travel?

This is your other thread: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34814813 There are also about ten other threads about books set in Italy or books about Italy.

I haven't read the book you mention, so I'm not sure what a comparable book would be. I just finished "The Reluctant Tuscan: How I Discovered my Inner Italian" by Phil Doran. It is described as a travel narrative. I really enjoyed it and look forward to our trip to Italy even more after reading it. The story is quite humorous and gives a good glimse into the Italian culture. Hope this is helpful!

That book that you mentioned is really good. I enjoyed that one myself. I think I've managed to find a book! It's called "A year by the sea" by Joan Anderson. Looks pretty interesting! Thanks for your help!

Schnookies, do you know that if you click on your name you will see your other threads such as the other thread you started asking about book titles and where you a got a lot of information. When I say click on your name do that where your name is next to the Welcome at the top of the screen or anywhere where your name shows up on a post. Best regards.

1. The Italian Trip by Goethe.
2. The Italian Hours by H. James.
3. Innocent People Abroad by M. Twain.
4. Naples '44 by N. Lewis.
5. Venice by J. Morris.
6. Love and War by E. Newby.
7. Rome by Michael Sheridan.
According to my bookguide, they are "non fiction travel narrative".

Another vote here for the Annie Hawes books cited by carrom! There is now a third book called "Journey to the South: A Calabrian Homecoming." Hawes and her Italian fiance & his family travel to Calabria together....If you want a book about an American seeking his Italian roots, go for the excellent "Dances with Luigi." If you want a description of an Italian family that had migrated to & now lives in Liguria returning to its Calabrian roots (for a visit!), read Hawes' latest.
