Still need to know about oxygen

I have asked this before but we really haven't gotten any help. I did go into the Graffi Wall of Rick Steves but got no answers. We are getting desparate. We really need to find some way to have oxygen, just at night. We can get a small carry tank here but where do you get refills. Please help. Thanks NA

We are going to be in London for two days and then on to Scotland and Ireland. Any help would be appreciated. We have gotten so much help from from all of you on where to go and what to see. Has anyone stayed at the Oxford Hotel in London? Thanks again. NA

I think this question is too important to rely on the chance that someone on a forum knowing the answer. I think you should start contacting someone who might be able to help you. Never having needed oxygen, I don't know know who this would be. Perhaps your doctor could help you, or contact the tourist authority in the countries you are visiting. Also, in the Fodor's resources, they list two travel agencies that specialize in travel for people with disabilities. Perhaps if you call them, they could direct you to the correct agency. Good luck.

Hope the following may be a useful lead. Sat next to a couple that required oxygen while flying. The Flight Attendant advised only airline approved devices could be used, and one should notify the airline before flying if oxygen will be needed. It seemes the airline wanted to provide it (for a fee) to make sure it met all safety requirements. If you contact the airline you are booked with to England perhaps they can provide it at both ends. Or give you a contact where to go.

Norma, <BR>I don't know whether you have gone on your trip yet, but there are a few things you might try. First, talk directly to the company that supplies your oxygen (and be persistent! ie, the higher up you go, probably, the better, as I'd bet one of the regular customer reps isn't going to have your answer). They may be able to make arrangements for you through another branch or partner company, provide you with extra O2 tubing, and help get your insurance company to cover any extra costs. The doctor who prescribed the O2 may also be able to help, and to provide you with extra copies of your oxygen prescription/supply system (you should also know that the oxygen level in airplanes is significantly less than on the ground, eg as little as 15% v 21% at sea level, meaning that your doc may also want to get a special test to find out whether you need in-flight O2). As I think someone else mentioned, a few travel agencies specialize in making travel arrangements for people with disabilities, and may also be able to help. Good luck!

Look in the US phonebook under "Medical Supplies". Check also with airlines as mentioned above. Medical suppliers may have branches in foreign countries or know of some.
