CarolineM,
What wonderful choices you have!

Our list of choices was impossbily difficult.
We considered both the Bastide de Gordes (but beyond budget) and Mas de Garrigon as our second base before being invited to our friends' rental mid-way btwn St. Remy and Les Baux, at Maussane (a village we visited daily for supplies and found charming).

Then we saw them both when visiting picture-perfect Gordes and Roussillon (the latter we actually enjoyed more, found more authentic).
While the Bastide seemed to us considerably more luxurious, the Mas de Garrigon in Rousillon seemed to have more delightfully idiosincratic, authentic Provencal flavor-just a comment regarding the point that Bigal made.

But the Mas de Garrigon didn't make our final "cut" because it required half board during our dates, which my traveling companions didn't want.

Again, I found the Provence hotel decision-making process so impossible. There are so many truly lovely properties from which to choose.
I'd love to dedicate my next life to trying them all!

Good luck on your decision!

A favorite place of mine is the Mas du Pastre in Eygalieres but no dinners are served.

I stayed at La Bastide de Gordes and it was lovely. Very comfortable, excellent bathroom. I particularly enjoyed the views from the terrace, restaurant and other public rooms. I didn't have a room with a view, however.

I thoroughly enjoyed staying in Gordes because it was magical to walk around at night after the tourists left.

If it were me, I would stay one place the entire time, since I don't like spending a lot of time packing and moving. Gordes is well located to explore the places that you want to see.

Have you checked Oustau de Baumaniere in Les Baux? It's so beautiful, and the food is divine.

Another very nice hotel near Les Baux, and operated by the family that has L'Oustau de Beaumaniére, is Le Carbo d'or. Lovely pool, decent-sized rooms, horseback riding available.

I have stayed at Oustau de Baumaniere, Ch. les Alpilles and Cabro d'Or along with Riboto...Personally, I would take Riboto of the 3....they are all good choices.

Wow. Oustau looks amazing, but that does supercede my budget. Cabro is booked. I'm still waiting for an email back from Riboto.

Caroline (one of my favorite names), you said you're willing to spend up to 300EU per night, I think Oustau de Baumaniere has rooms at about that price, you might just drop them an e-mail and see what they have available. Either way, enjoy yourself! annieladd

Whatever you decide know that the Riboto, Oustau and Cabro are all a walk from each other so you can book lunches or dinner

Yes, Avignon is closer but I did say Orange "would" work for Gordes, if train schedules and such were preferred. I wasn't looking at a map at the time...just remembering my own experience.

CarolineM, it sounds as though my sister and I will be in Provence the same days you will be. We arrive on August 13 and depart for paris on August 17. We are staying at the Mas Shamrock, which is a right outside of St. Remy. We also plan on visiting the Luberon towns as well as taking Stu's lavender route. Have a great time!

Is it considered bad form to send another email request to a hotel if I haven't heard a response from sending one yesterday? I am finding more and more places booked and am getting a bit nervous.

Don't e-mail; send a fax. You're much more likely to get a quick response that way. Better yet, telephone.

It's ok if you haven't an answer from one. I'd telephone first the one you are most interesred in.

Yay! There is room at Riboto! I can have either the junior troglodytic suite or a double room on the ground floor of the manor house with direct access to the terrace. Go for the suite? Also, dumb question here: I presume that the half-board rate includes dinner? I've heard their restaurant is great. For an additional 92 euros, would that be a good idea to do?

Half board should include breakfast and one other meal.

Now that I have Les Baux settled, I have to decide on my 2nd location. I can't imagine going there and only sampling one hotel. Please give me feedback about this other decision...

I have been considering Auberge de Presbytere in Saignon, and I found out that I can pretty much have my choice of rooms on the dates I am after. However, I also have the option of staying in Gordes instead on those nights (Hotel Mas des Romarins or Bastide de Gordes), as we have some friends staying in Gordes at the same time. Would you consider Saignon over Gordes as far as a touring location for a couple of days? I know it isn't as central, but I've heard nice things.

You WILL enjoy Riboto. You will have breakfast and dinner. Yes, you will be very pleased dining there.

You can walk to Les Baux and to Oustau de Baumaniere if you would care to. Oustau has a very nice gift shop.

Enjoy.............
