Hi DTW - Either.
You could take the scenic train ride from San Moritz over to Tirano, then train from there via Milano Centrale.
Or take the bus (San Moritz-Lugano service) up the Engadine valley and over to Lake Como - from where you can continue - again via Milan - to Lake Garda.
Either way it's quite time-consuming.
Hope this helps ...

There is another rail possibility which will not appear on the rail.ch site because it's not part of Trenitalia. Ferrovie Nord Milano goes from Edolo to Brescia.
You would take the train from St. Moritz to Tirano. Take a bus from Tirano to Edolo. Take FNM from Edolo to Brescia, then on from there to Lake Garda.
Schedules for FNM:

Bus schedules Tirano to Edolo:
http://www.trasporti.regione.lombard.../home/home.asp
The above connections, while probably the least miles, would no doubt be pretty time consuming.

Actually, after looking it up, there is no direct bus from Tirano to Edolo, you'd have to change at Aprica.
If you want to look up rail times from St. Moritz to Lake Garda on the Swiss rail site, the destination you want is
"Desenzano del Garda"

Thank you for all of the information. I think that we'll create a "Plan B". We thought of taking the Glacier Express from Zermatt to St. Moritz, and then we need to go to the Lake Garda area. It's so complicated and time consuming! I think that we'll forget the Glacier Express!
