Is St. Moritz pretty dead in late summer or early fall? Dave

Hi dave1933,

Soglio is indeed nice -- great walks among the Chestnut trees (then a nut pie after -- YUM!).

But the whole Engadin Valley is wonderful in the fall. Ingo, a frequent poster here, vacations in the Engadin a lot, and recenty he went in the fall and really loved it. I don't really think I would classify it as "dead" as folks will be on hiking holidays.

But no need to limit yourself to the big town of St. Moritz. There are many lovely small towns and villages where you can save some money and have nicer views. Check out Zuoz, Samedan, Sils, Silvaplana, Pontresina, or Guarda.

Let us know as your plans progress!

St. Moritz is not dead then, it costs a ton of money and is full of cars that make a Porsche look like your cousin's VW. It is the height of the continental European vacation season, and traditionally big with Brits and rich people from further afar (lots and lots of rich Russians these days), always has a glitzy and ritzy (more than ritzy - Mo-Ritz, get it?) clientele - if you can find a room, you'll spend a pretty penny.
But if you book soon, in smaller towns of the region, you may have a great time. Google Engadin hotels, that's the name of the region. Sils, Soglio, Pontresina, Zernez, Scuols, and on and on.
