Information on St Moritz
Ok, I have posted much, MUCH good information about some other areas of Switzerland. as most of the Swiss regulars know, I have posted gobs of excellent information about hikes, hotels, and basically just excellent informatiuon about Switzerland.
Now, well now I need some good information on ST Moritz. Other than driving through St Moritz, I know very little about ST Moritz.
The information I need at this time is pretty basic.
Can you use the post bus system to get to the some of the nearby hiking areas such as Sills Maria? Or do you use the train system or both?
I have stayed in Saas Fee and found that using the post bus system is very excellent. I was wondering if this was a similar deal in St Moritz as well?
Another question is about hotels. I was thinking of staying in the main part of town, you know, up on the hill. Good idea? I prefer hotels to Hostels and other type overnight options.
Can u catch a bus back in forth to the train station? In most Swiss areas, the post busses or bus stations are next door to the bahnhof or train station.
And one other thing, please do not respond to this message if all you will have is go buy a guide book. Guide books are fine and all, but as we all know, there is nothing like good personal information.
Btw, I was looking at the Hotel Crystal. I am gussing that is in the main area of St Moritz in the downtown area. That is good for me to stay in the downtown area. After a days hike, I enjoy strolling around a town in the evenings.
Anyway, I hope you all can help.

Hi sunstar,
I spent a week in Zuoz one year, meeting a few other regular posters here. Loved Zuoz and personally would not stay in the town of St. Moritz at all. As some others have said, you get more charm & more hotel for the $$ if you stay in a nearby town like Celerina or Sils.
As for transportation, yes you use a combination of Postbus & trains, which we did all the time. Of course, they're timed perfectly so you just leave the train and hop on the waiting bus and depart in 2 or 3 minutes. The rail scheduler at www.rail.ch includes the Postbusses in its schedule.
From Zuoz, we saw Guarda & Soglio, and we biked the Inn valley around Zernez-Bever and the St. Moritz lakes. Regrets: wish we'd spent more time on that bicycle trail, more time in Guarda, more time on Soglio's footpaths, and a stop in Scuol.
Good luck!

Swandav and Paul. Thank you much for the information. I will do that. I was looking at a map of the area and just might stay in Sils or someother area.
As I said, other driving through or around St Moritz, my knowledge of ST Moritz is just not that extensive.
I know that I used the post bus system in many areas of Switzerland. In Saas Fee, I walked a trail in The Saas Grund area. Then came down and caught a bus back to Saas Fee. I have now walked all through the Sas Fee area.
That was nice area to move about in. Even did a bike trek over to Saas Almagel.
Again Paul and Swandav, thank you much!

Thanx for the information about the area. Yes, I am leaning heavily to the idea of staying in one of the areas near St Moritz. Since I like to walk around or frequent a nice, freindly bar in the evening hours, I'd prefer an area that was not too isolated.
That is one of my main aruments in that what place to stay in Jung Frau area. That tired old argument gets new life from time to time. Some of us like Grindlewald because there seems to be more night activity. Some of you all like being tucked away in a mountain village with no contact at all with anyone or anything from back home. Since I like some degree of activity in the evening hours, I would prefer a village in the ST Moritz area that was not too isolated.
I hope some people will post some hotels where people had some good experiences. A link to those hotels would certainly be nice.
Thanks for the previous comments!!
