St. Moritz--help

Does anyone know if the trains go between Lugano & St. Moritz, someone told me you have to drive.

And, does anyone know of a hotel or any place to stay that doesn't require a week minimum? We need a place Dec 30, 31st..Thanks

shantel,
The train trip Lugano-St. Moritz has four changes and takes about four hours; you can check it out yourself at www.rail.ch and click on "travel/timetables."

Have you rummaged around the St. Moritz web site at www.stmoritz.ch? You can contact each hotel yourself, or you can contact the tourist office (at the "Get in Touch" button) for help with hotels.

Good luck.

No direct trains. Connect at Bellinzona for bus to Thusis and then train again to St. Moritz. See www.rail.ch Trip takes 4 - 5 hours. By car should be about 2 hours or so depending on weather and traffic.

There may be some exceptions, perhaps more so at the lower end of the scale, but the period between Christmas and New Year is probably >the< heaviest in Swiss mountain resorts. A one week minimum is pretty common.

There used to be a bus between the two that took about four hours and ran twice a day. Don't know if it still runs...

There's a direct Post Bus from St. Moritz to Lugano via Chiavenna and Lake Como (sit on the left!), leaving from the train station at 12.35, arriving in Lugano at 16.40.
This bus called "Palm Express" runs Fri/Sat/Sun only (daily from dec 25 to jan 6).
Mid-June to Mid-October there are 2 daily buses.
Seat reservation is compulsory.
