St. Michael's Mount, Cornwall -- logistical help please

Hi Cornwall experts --
It's almost time for me and Hikrguy to go on our Cornwall trip and walk the South West Coast Path. Now that spring has finally arrived here in the NYC region, where we live, our trip is feeling like it's actually happening soon!

I'm looking for some advice about visiting St. Michael's Mount. We read about this fascinating place last autumn and knew we had to put it in the itinerary. This is the kind of place that we could wander about all day long. At the beginning of our Cornwall trip we will be staying in Penzance, and we can visit St. Michael's Mount on either Sunday June 17 or Monday June 18.

Several questions to help me decide which day to go: First, I see on the website that the gardens are not open on Sundays. Is this an intrinsic part of visiting the island? The photos on the website are stunning -- what might the plantings look like in mid-June?
Second, what might the crowds be like on a Sunday as opposed to Monday? We are going at this time of year because schools will still be in session and we hope Cornwall will be slightly less crowded. Would it be a calmer, less crowded visit to go on Monday?
And third, we will be renting a car in Penzance for our 8 days in Cornwall. Logistically, would it be simpler just to take the bus from Penzance to Marazion and then wait to hire the car until Tuesday, or does it not make a difference if we get the car on Monday and then go out to Marazion, though there will be a charge for parking?

It looks like we will have to take a boat over to the island, but we can walk the causeway on the way back, which sounds so great. I bet it is fabulous for photography!

Thanks for all advice and thoughts.
