I would like to have some information on evening concerts at St Martin In The Field. <BR>I heard there is an evening candlelight concert. We will be there in april 2001. <BR>Where can I get tickets? Is there a scedule? Which evening of the week? Thanks <BR>

just back from the UK again...i enjoy the concerts at St. Martins everytime i am there... you can look up the web site for the church and get concert info that way.. i'm not sure how far out the schedule goes though. tickets are also readily available at the church, never had any trouble with them being sold out...there is a box office in the crypt. <BR>they also offer lunchtime concerts as well. <BR>it is a lovely and inexpensive way to spend an evening.. enjoy!!! <BR>

A year ago I went to a "lunchtime" concert at St Martin in the Field. Assuming that lunchtime meant around twelve noon, I showed up early, around 11:20, and then learned that the concerts actually start at 12:50 (I'm going from memory here--maybe it's 1:00). Because I was there so early I was able to have lunch in the cafeteria in the crypt and to see the gift shop, which includes lots of opportunities for brass rubbings. Both the gift shop and concert were packed, and that was in mid October. <BR>The concert was wonderful, a prize winning string quartet of young musicians, who played Vivaldi.

Hi Louis, <BR> <BR>You pretty much just walk up right before the concert and buy the tickets then and there. I was just there last month & had my choice of several (Vivaldi by candlelight, Mozart by Candlelight, etc.) It seems to be nearly every evening. <BR> <BR>I went to see the Mozart by Candlelight - try to get Gallery seats if you can. It was beautiful - the lights went down, much of the church was illuminated just by candlelight - except the musicians of course get some (soft) lighting! What made it even more magical - a thunderstorm has just started up as I entered the church - the lightning lit up the stained glass windows as I sat in the Gallery! how pretty... <BR> <BR>have fun! <BR> <BR>Beth

Fodors <BR> <BR>You've had good advice so far. You need not prebook, but can buy at the door or the day before. <BR> <BR>The quality of the music varies. At lunchtimes, without candlelight, it is usually good. By candlelight it is often under-rehearsed and not well played. It's your choice. If you want the picturesque, you should choose canndlelit pop classics. If you want good music you should buy in a newsagents in the concourse of your arrival airport a copy of "What's On in London" or of "Time Out", and look under Classical Music to see what is on in all the various London churches, lunchtimes or evenings. St James Piccadilly and St Anne and St Agnes just north of St Paul's keep up especially high standards. <BR> <BR>The food in the crypt of St Martin in the Fields is workmanlike and acceptable. There's more taste and better value for money at Gordon's Wine Bar, on Villiers Street near Embankment tube station, five minutes walk away. <BR> <BR>The same choice between good music and picturesque atmosphere is found in Vienna and Prague. <BR> <BR>Please write if I can help further.
