St. Andrews Village near Budapest

There is an optional tour that can be taken to St. Andrews Village which is near Budapest. If we took this tour we would not have as much time to explore the castle. (Is the castle open on Sun. a.m.) Has anyone been on this village trip? I have not found much on the internet or in Fodor's Hungary book. Thanks.

The village is Szentendre which you can find more info on than St Andrew's Village....the village has galleries and is an artist colony, has restaurants and a very interesting ethnographic museum, where they have villages represented from all over Hungary in 1 spot it's also known as the Skanzen in Hungary. It's a fun village and would be worth an afternoon. The castle can be seen in an hour...but's it's all in what you like to do.

Hello gregeva

Thanks so much. I did look up the name Szentendre and found alot of information and different sites. I also found "uborka salata" on one of those sites. This is a cucumber salad that my grandmother (from Austria) used to make. Have you ever had this in Budapest? I was so thrilled to find this. It brings back many memories. It was a favorite dish that my Dad liked to make also. But I learned I have been spelling it wrong. We spelled it Umborka. Thanks again.

Yes. I have had cucumber salad and I love to make it during the summer! I too love it. The food is great just stay away from places with english on the menu! I am off to Budapest in May and can't wait to be there again. Enjoy your time and if you need anything else just post and I will try to help.

The castle, which you can see on the pictures is not really a castle anymore... In one part there is the largest library of Hungary, in the other part, you can find the National Gallery. You will visit the Matthias Church's area during the sightseeing, it is the most interesting area of the castle...
