Spooky and Haunted Spots in Ireland

I'm in the early planning stages for Ireland, and my daughter loves haunted and spooky things and places, so I'm thinking it would be fun if we have plenty of that sort of place on the itineray. I've checked out the haunted-britain.com site, but does anyone out there have any suggestions for eerie spots, haunted castles, etc.?
Thanks!

Hi S,

I am sure there are lots of spooky & haunted castles in Ireland but the only one I know is Ballycastle Hotel on the Antrim Coast.

Enjoy Ireland

If you are going to Dublin, check out http://www.dublinbus.ie/your_journey/ghost_bus_tour.asp - they have a "Ghost Bus" tour which might be what you are looking for. There is an age minimum though - 14.

Not much to see or do at Castle Donovan. It's been fenced off for years -- though the government DID have it scaffolded to perform lifesaving repairs in '03 and '04. Scaffoldings gone, now, but sois most of one side.

One heck of a pretty (but slightly scairey drive up past, into the valley beneath Nowen Hill.

Shaggy and Scoobey were right: there are no such things as ghosts.

Leap CAstle near Roscrea is supposed to be the most haunted place in Ireland. A family owns the castle and offers suppers and tours of the dungeon.

Here is an excellent site.

http://www.irishcultureandcustoms.co...pyCastles.html

Leap is suposedly the most terrifying, but sounds a little too creepy if you ask me.

There's a ghost that smells like a rotting corpse that can be seen with the head of a sheep with black rotting eyes? Sound interesting?

Oh yeah, and they found hundreds of skeletons in the dungeon (which has a hole in the floor with a spike underneath it) - pleasant hey?

Charleville Castle near Tullamore has the ghost of a small girl who fell to her death by sliding down the bannisters of a high staircase. It was a spooky place!

The old jail in Wicklow Town, is reported to be haunted. Normally it closes down for visitors in the winter but they have so many people interested in it recently that it even has late night visits until 3am sometimes. See www.wicklowjail.com for details.
