Spain passport expiration USA question

At the end of an upcoming trip to Spain I will have 6 months 4 days left. Is that cutting it close? Should I spent the extra $ for an expedited one?
thanks.

I think you'll be fine. Three months' validity is required. Six months is recommended. You have the recommended validity even if just by 4 days.

I wouldn't even give it a thought. What's the point of a passport time period if you think you need to get a new one more than 6 months before it even expires. I don't think Spain is that worried about US citizens' passports expiring more than 6 months after their trip is over. I think the 3 months requirement is a Schengen deal.
