Spain for 7 days, Barcelona and Madrid

Hello all,

I'm currently planning a trip to Spain in early May, we'll fly in on Sunday afternoon and fly out following sunday afternoon. My plan as of right now is to spend 3 nights in Barcelona, we will be flying from london, then on wed get to madrid, either by plane or train, (what's the best way) and stay till sunday,s o that give us 4 nights. Is this ok? Will I have time to take a day trip somewhere while in Madrid? I used to like to pack many many things into my itinerary, I've learned not to do that anymore =)

Where should I look for hotels in both cities, I have already bookmarked Maribel's guide. Our group consist of, 1 couple and 3 or 4 singles all late 20s. We are looking for a place that's convenient to get around, and easy to go home after checking out a few pubs.

Thanks for all your help.

I think that's a perfect way to divide a 7 days visit. If you can get the reduced AVE fares I suggest the train.

I'd probably spend 4 nights in Barcelona as one day will be needed to recover from jetlag. This looks OK though. You could even spend the entire 7 days in either Madrid OR Barcelona allowing for more daytrips - but if you don't know when you'll get back for a visit this is probably the way to do it.

Hi; We stayed at Hotel Colon, that is looking out at the 13 century cathedral. Had room #305. Has a few mixed reviews on trip advisor, but we would stay there again. Richard www.hotelcolon.es

I agree with the extra night in Barcelona. Both are great cities, but I think Barcelona is extraordinary. I also agree that you could easily spend a week in Barcelona, with a day trip or 2.

I spent 4 days in Madrid, and a week in Barcelona. That being said, I felt like I had enough time in Madrid, but could have easily spent another week in Barcelona.

In Madrid I like the area near Plaza Santa Ana and Prado Museum, referred to as Barrio de las Letras. Last couple of times I ahve stayed at Hotel Prado. In Barcelona I like the Eixample area.
