spain airline question

I am hoping someone could give me advice on what is the best way to book a one way reservation from bacelona to new york. My daughter is currently studying abroad in Spain. We are going to visit her and taking an Iberia flight home for $711 in December. Her one way flight would be near $2000 which is ridiculous. Do you have any suggestions on how to get her on the same or near the same flight to new york? We booked her one way Iberia flight to spain on student universe back in september and it was reasonable. Iberia doesn't appear on any of the discount sites especially for a one way. kayak travelocity orbit etc. yikes I'm not sure what to do-thanks for any help you could give me.

Does she have an ISIC card? If so, she could probably try using STA Travel. Most students book a roundtrip with STA and just guess the return date because STA allows a ticket change for only $25 once they find out their exact return.

If that doesn't work, look at her taking a budget flight to Ireland and a cheap one way flight to the US on AerLingus.

I just checked the least expensive Barcelona-New York City round-trip flight for 13 Dec, through Madrid, is $665 USD using Iberia. This is based on a 14 to 15 day trip. The cost of the flights go up noticeably between the 18th and 21st, but then drop back down after that.

If you do a 21 day direct round-trip beginning on 13 Dec., then the least expensive fare $839 using Delta.

If this is for a one-way ticket, then what Aramis offered is correct, Aer Lingus at $418 USD. Iberia would be $2500 and American Airways is just under $2000 USD.

I just bought a round-trip ticket for my daughter to return to the U.S. She just did not use the return portion of the ticket.

I see that other posters have given 13th Dec as a date...what date are you wanting your daughter to fly?
I do not know how obvious this is but the near to Christmas the more expensive flights are.

Iberia does use Kayak, I am almost positive, as I have looked at that site for Iberia tickets.

If she has to fly on the same flight ( I assume it's the non-stop BCN-JFK), cheapest I can find is 833 EUR roundtrip (with return date 12/30 - there may be cheaper dates, as I didn't look for every possible one). That's about US$1,100 at current rate.

Thanks everyone. I booked her on an Air Lingus for a pretty good fair $609 She will be traveling alone with a layover in dublin. The good news is we all will arrive in New York within an hour of each other.
